Virtual Railfan Tour of Switzerland - Wednesday - Swiss Museum of Transport or Verkehrshaus

Verkehrshaus is across Lake Luzern from Luzern.  The best way to get there is by paddle steamer although there is a frequent train service as well as trolley/trackless buses (Lucern even runs three section trolley buses)

The paddle steamers are museum quality in themselves

Getting there is half the fun

The Museum covers all modes of transport and the video above will give a good introduction to the scope of the exhibits. We will concentrate on the railway themed exhibits.
A Waldenburgerbahn locomotive - much easier to view than the one inside a glass building

We have seen a similar Red Arrow in action

There is a similar one at Innertkirchen but it is difficult to inspect because of the short turnaround time at Inertkirchen.

There is a good model of the Gotthart Spiral line with the Wassen church shown prominently.

A Montreux streetcar which has been supplanted by the trolley bus service between Vevey, Montreux and Villeneuve

Narrow gauge Rhaetian Bahn small crocodile #402
we rode behind a live one earlier on this virtual  trip

Cutaway steam locomotive to show how it worked

A large crocodile

An Altstatten - Gais car - we rode the head end of a recent one earlier on this virtual  trip

A steam tram similar to one we saw last Sunday

For the kids of all ages (in this case Paul) there are three train simulators.  We tried each one.  There was a tricky one approaching the downgrade into Lausanne on a passenger train.  It first told us to speed up then complained that we were braking too early.
There is an outdoor garden railway

One of the most impressive exhibits is for young kids where they learn some engineering principles as well as to cooperate and work with each other.

One can even sail a boat.
there is lots to see and do for all ages.  there are many good videos available but these two may be of interest.
General interest
