Virtual Railfan Tour of Switzerland - Monday - Kaeserburg Model Railway

This is one of the first things you will see when you get to the Kaeserburg Model Railway in the outskirts of Fribourg at Granges-Paccot. A beautifully restored Rhaetian Railway Ge 2/4 No.212 built in 1913

Actually this is the first indication you are likely to see as you approach.

Reservations are essential as the hours of operation are restricted and it can become busy with school groups

The layout is downstairs in a very large area

the main yard is extensive and there is always something to see

Train movements are controlled by this entrance-exit CTC panel similar to those used on British Railways in the 1960s. Once the route has been set and signals cleared the trains run automatically with built in pauses for the passenger trains at stations.

The layout is meant to represent a Swiss railway operating in Switzerland in a specific era.  The scenic attention to detail is exquisite.

It is the small details that bring the layout to life.  There is plenty of room for countryside and things do not appear crowded.

There is even a mountain railway

As we leave there is the opportunity to admire the front of ths Ae 6/6

There are a large number of Youtube videos of the Kaeserburg Railway.  here are a couple:

This includes an excellent cab ride
