Virtual Railfan Tour of Switzerland - Saturday - Bernina Pass and the Brusio Spiral Viaduct
Rhaetian Railway train at Tirano.
The Rhaetian Railway (RhB) is mainly a metre gauge tourist line that connects Chur and Davos through Samedan to Tirano in Italy. The line has a tortuous route from Pontresina through the Bernina Pass. Having negotiated the pass, from Poschiavo there is a pleasant run beside a lake followed by the Brusio viaduct before arriving at Tirano. The line has received UNESCO World Heritage status.
Pontresina - in spite of the grades the RhB is an adhesion railway
Pontresina
The route is full of sharp curves
Snow stays late in the Bernina
Approaching Brusio
The Brusio spiral is mainly viaduct
It is difficult to get an appreciation of the viaduct from the train
Good video of the Spiral
Another good video with excellent long range views as well
Tirano
Tirano with its Italian influence is almost an anticlimax
Standard gauge Italian trains can be seen
RhB yard
The customs house if you wish to enter Italy.  However most RhB travellers are happy to reboard their train for an exciting return north
Good general video
Cab ride (long)
