Virtual Railfan Tour of Switzerland - Wednesday - Spiez
Looking south east at Spiez. To the right is the main line towards Brig and Italy through the Lotschberg tunnels. To the left the line drops down to run beside Lake Thun to Interlaken.
Spiez is on the Bern Lorschberg Simplon (BLS) main line between between Bern and Brig. It carries heavy passenger and freight traffic with many freight trains having locomotives added or taken off for the grades through to Italy. There is a convenient overbridge and a several places to obtain refreshments. Many of the freight trains are recrewed here in the passenger platforms.
Passenger trains
The BLS runs local services from Bern and Zweisimmen (Golden Pass) through to Interlaken and Brig. The SBB has a number of long distance services while DB ICE trains run to Interlaken.

At times there is a lot of activity with freight trains being slotted into the passenger schedules as well as adding or removing locomotives. Locomotives waiting for their assignments are stood along the southern side.
