Virtual Railfan Tour of Switzerland - Monday - Montreux - Rocher de Naye Rack Railway
![]() |
The Rocher de Naye Railway calls itself the Marmot Line after the marmot reserve at the summit |
The line from Montreux to Naye is an 800 mm gauge rack railway with incredible views over Lac Leman. The Montreux station has three railways with three different gauges (standard, meter and 800mm)

The Naye trains are difficult to photograph in Montreux because the platforms are always in deep shade |

This is about as good as it gets. The train to the left is a meter gauge MOB one, out in the sun. |

School kids use the train to get to and from school. Imagine going to school on a rack railway. |

Right from the start it becomes evident that we are climbing |
