Virtual Railfan Tour of Switzerland - Thursday - Stein am Rhein Garden Railway

There is a public park in Stein am Rhein with a good garden railway

After visiting the Rhein Falls we can take the train to Schaffhausen and transfer to a local which drops us off at Stein am Rhein. It is a short walk across the river and through the historic town center to get to the riverside park which has the railway shown at the top of this map

The town has a lot to offer which but we are interested in the railway so we will spend a little more time on the way back to the station

The ride is through a well manicured park

Both electric and steam outline are run

The river is very clean

At the far end there is a turning loop, shed and workshops

The track is three rail to accommodate two gauges but four rails are laid across the turntable to ensure even weight distribution

Having enjoyed the park and its riverside setting we can now wander back through the town with its interesting frescoes and catch the train back.
