Virtual Railfan Tour pf Switzerland - Friday - Lausanne - Echallens - Bercher (LRB)
Watching trains at Lausanne can be fun. The grime on the front catches many small insects and during the short station stop armies of sparrows converge on the locomotive to pick up grimy snacks.
In western Switzerland we usually stay at Yverdon-les-Bains. There is a direct train from Lausanne but we have found another interesting way by taking the narrow gauge LEB line to Bercher from where there is a Post Bus which runs through lovely countryside to Yverdon.
This metre gauge line runs on 1500 V DC.
Finding the LEB in Lausanne can be a bit of a challenge and the short metro trip to Lausanne Flon is the easiest way
The LEB has a number of older units, this is No. 27 built in 1966 and named Etagnieres complete with blazon.
At present there is a frequent service to Echallens which houses the workshops. Travellers to Bercher may have to change trains here.
The run from Echallens to Bercher is very much a roadside tramway through rolling farming country.
Bercher has just one platform
The LEB plans to increase service frequencies and has recently received a number of new trains from Stadler. In connection with this a small yard is being built at Bercher. A new switch has just been laid.
It is good to allow a little time at Bercher to look around the village
Swiss villages seem to have an obligatory lovingly preserved water trough
Our Post bus awaits - drawn up right by the platform.
We can sit back and enjoy the ride to Yverdon-les-Bains
