Virtual Railfan Tour of Switzerland - Emosson Revisited

The Emosson Barrage Tramway

In thinking through how much more material we may still have one item will be to set out those locations we enjoyed so much that another visit would be good.  In future blogs we will also set out some of the places we have yet to visit.

This is the URL of the earlier blog which was written in tourist mode

We get there from Martigny on the SBB Jura Simplon main line. At Martigny we change to the narrow gauge Mont Blanc Express (metre gauge 800V DC, third rail being converted to overhead in stages) and get off at Le Chatelard, request stop.
This is where the fun starts. We walk back behind the power house to the first funicular (metre gauge)near Le Chateau d'Eau. We then take the narrow gauge tramway (600mm gauge, diesel powered) to Emosson Barrage for the short metre gauge funicular up to the viewing area.

This video covers the first, longer, funicular

This video covers the two funiculars and tramway

These two videos covers the journey from Martigny

Finally. Here is a link to the Flickr pictures I took that day

This is a trip certainly worth taking again.
