Virtual Railfan Tour - Miniatur Wunderland - Real Water Basin

In addition to the many static water exhibits using some form of epoxy-resin there is a large liquid water exhibit.

An oil rig

There is even a canal with operating locks (see video for operation)

This large model requires careful steering

The behind the scenes tour takes us into the large tank, not available to the general public where vessels are tested

There was talk of developing a mini GPS system so that the ships could be controlled automatically. However, whenever we have visited the vessels have been controlled manually by radio.
No matter the method of control it is an impressive sight to see a large vessel move to a dock.

The real water part is impressive but the solid exhibits are also excellent

This video gives a good impression of the real water basin

This video shows a truck driving off a barge on to dry land as well as the lock in operation.
