Virtual Railfan Tour - Severn Valley Railway - Arley
Waiting for the train at Arley
Arley is the next stop south of Highley and is well worth a visit to admire the station buildings and the great care that has gone into its restoration and preservation as a typical station of the early 20th century
The station
The signal box is on the west side opposite the station
Red hot pokers in the flower bed
A nicely groomed Manor class 4-6-0 7812 makes a station stop on its journey to Bridgnorth
Having taken in the wonderful restoration detail a walk down to the village is worthwhile

The Harbour Inn offers refreshment
There are a number of excellent videos of trains at Arley:
The 1500 class tanks were used mainly on carriage shunting in London while Schools class 4-4-0 926 "Repton" spent some time in Canada.
In this January 2020 video the first cut is a GWR Hall class 4-6-0 running backwards. You can clearly hear the sound of the crosshead vacuum pump common on Great Western engines
This video shows an auto train at Arley. In this the driver sits in the front cab of the coach and can control the brake and regulator/throttle through a mechanical linkage back to the locomotive. The fireman is alone on the footplate of the engine and can control the cut off.
I say the fireman is alone but it is a great opportunity for others to get a footplate ride as I did once on the Hawkhurst branch on the Southern region
