Virtual Railfan Tour UK - Snowdon Mountain Railway - Not
An Oggie is a pasty. This is one of the first signs we saw as we arrived at the station.
The Snowdon Mountain Railway starts from a station in Llanberis. Paul and I took the train to Caernarfon and found the bus for the short journey to Llanberis. The Snowdon Mountain Railway is a very popular tourist attraction and the trains are normally sold out weeks ahead. I had made reservations well in advance and we arrived in good time for our train. The booking office mentioned that it was cloudy at the summit.
The railway was preparing a steam locomotive in the sunshine
However, our train arrived in the platform behind a Hunslet diesel
The railway is now acquiring some additional hybrid locomotives to replace the straight diesels
We started out in sunny weather
This sheep doesn't look too happy. Maybe it is earmarked for future Welsh Oggies
However by the time we had reached Clogwyn the mist was very thick.
We waited around for some time hoping for the best but the decision was taken to return to Llanberis.
At Llanberis we got off and ran around to the booking office to get our refund. It was then time for lunch and the Welsh Oggie was very good.
This is a picture from Flickr of the view in a good day. Please do not reproduce.

However, our trip to Llanberis was not lost as there is another steam railway operating there
