Virtual Railfan Tour Argentina 1995 - Broad Gauge from Bariloche
In 1995 Mary and I entered Argentina by travelling south down Chile to Puerto Montt then by bus and boat through the lakes to San Carlos de Bariloche.
Te rail part in Argentina started in Bariloche with a special train on the broad gauge east as far as Ingeniero Jacobacci the northern terminus of the Patagonian narrow gauge.
The key points are shown on this map.
Snow covered Andes to the west
The locations chosen for run pasts were very good.
This little boy is being given an Operation Lifesaver pin.
A small wayside station built of stone
We finally came to that magic location where the narrow gauge joins the broad gauge for the final few miles into Ing. Jacobacci
No moving rail parts here as a switch is not necessary.
Ing. Jacobacci at sunset. Tomorrow we will ride the narrow gauge.
