Virtual Railfan Tour of Argentina 1995 - La Trochita - First Day
This is one of my all time favorite pictures. Some money passed hands and these horsemen posed for us with our train in the background. With a lack of available building materials in this area the huts and the support for the water tank have been made out of ties.
On our first day we had a single locomotive from Ing. Jacobacci
We started on the dual gauge section as far as the junction with its branching signal which, by this time, was out of use
In several places there were old freight cars set out on isolated sections of track. Possibly to be used for storage
The scenery was magnificent with the mountains in the west
Another house built from ties/sleepers. Hope they were not creosoted!
I think we ended the first day at El Maiten
But we spent the night close by at El Meson. Waiting for transport back to the train we found an apple orchard for sale in this idyllic spot. Mary and I seriously considered buying the orchard and retiring down here
