Virtual Railfan Tour Central America - Guatemala

I took a trip to Guatemala in December 1989

This shows the track plan. From Guatemala City we went first to Esquintla and close to the border with Mexico. After this we went to the Caribbean at Puerto Barrios and return.  A couple of years after my trip the entire three foot gauge system fell into disuse and there are plans to revive it.

The roundhouse in Guatemala City. The empty stall had been used by the steam locomotive No 205 which was used for our trip.

No. 205 was a 2-8-0 built by Baldwin in 1948

The runpast locations were well chosen

We were allowed to travel wherever we wanted
