Day 5 - Miniatur Wunderland Part 2

The Hamburg Operas House from near Miniatur Wunderland

We arrived at miniature Wonderland at 9 this morning and went straight to the airport at Knuffingen. This is usually very full but we had the whole place to ourselves for about 15 minutes. Not only is it interesting because of the taking off and landing of aircraft but because all of the ancillary services are accurately modelled.  The tank truck comes to the aircraft to fuel it then it goes the way back to the tank farm for a refill, the baggage is brought brought out and if the aircraft is not at a gate the bus services come and pick up or drop passengers then go back to the bus waiting area. There are a large number of emergency vehicles which go to any emergency with lights flashing and sirens blasting. One aircraft landed and stood at the end of the runway, it was quickly surrounded by emergency vehicles which waited until  the aircraft finally moved off to the landing area. At any one time there are about 15 vehicles running about the apron, all with specific duties.

After the airport we took a look at Austria, then on to the USA and finally Italy. Each one has a fine amount of detail and the human side of the little scenes is well worth looking at period. We had now seen everything.

We were pretty busy for both days at Miniatur Wunderland. There is a great deal to see and there are so many interesting small scenes that it is not possible to take it all in. There must be hundreds of thousands small figures, most of them with a definite purpose.

Two days well spent.
