Friday 15 September - Miniatur Wunderland Day 2

We arrived at Miniatur Wunderland just after 0800 and went straight up to the airport. We were almost alone and could have a good look around before the inevitable crowds arrived. Above is the screen showing the arrivals and departures from the airport. This is a full screen computer display yet it is shown in miniature on the railway platforms for the airport station. In addition to a full passenger train service the railway also supplies aviation fuel in tank cars to the airport.

Most visitors are interested in the airplanes taking off, landing and taxiing. Also impressive are the various vehicles running around the apron to supply the various wants - passenger coaches to convey passengers to and from the terminal, baggage movements, aviation fuel tankers, vans to supply food and drink to the planes, emergency vehicles and general administrative vans.

This is a training exercise where emergency crews are going to an aircraft on fire

There are occasional surprising visitors.
The front of the airport is crowded with taxis and there is a lot of private parking as well as an hotel.

After spending over an hour at the airport we went on to look at the many items we purposely left yesterday. I have seen many of these several times and am always amazed at the wealth of detail, It is also pleasing to note that many of the older models have been improved by insertion of additional details.
Emergency services are having a field day

A fun fair

A local Hamburg station

Detail for the above

When you hear the strains of Peter and the Wolf you know you are close to the Hamburg Opera House

This is a little different from the original in that it opens up, being split in two so one can see what is going on inside

Detail of a small part of the interior.
I like the boat detail here

A young lad was controlling the shipping

We couldn't miss the American section which is always difficult in such a restricted space

Most people are interested in Miami shown here in the light

And shown here at night
Norway looked pretty cold - hope it is warmer for us next week

I took a further look at Patagonia - this is a typical town in southern Argentina

Penguins on ice floes.
I think my favourite part is Provence so I will finish here

Picking apples

An outdoor lunch

An abandoned water wheel
We had a great visit admiring the amazing details. This will have to do until next time.

We made a short foray into Hamburg Hauptbahnhof this evening. The long distance trains were all running late. We were lucky that the train by which we arrived here was only 35 minutes late, one yesterday was four hours late.
Let's hope we do alright tomorrow.
