Saturday 9 September - Blonay Chamby Museum and More

An ICN train took us to Lausanne with a quick transfer to Vevey. From there we took a local train to the base station for the Vevey funicular. The views from the top at Mount Pelerin were good although it was still very hazy in the distance. We could see a steamer coming into the dock at Vevey.

Back down at the bottom of the funicular we took a trolley bus on route 201 to get to the station at Vevey. The narrow gauge train to Blonay was in the platform and left almost immediately.

The 201 trolley busses on route 201 run between Vevey, Montreua and Villeneuve.

We bought our tickets for the museum and had a Magnum while waiting for the train to the museum.

First an electric motor car and trailer arrived. Gravity shunting put the motor on the front for the return. Then the steam train arrived and gravity was used again to put the engine on the front for the return to the museum.

The first business at the museum was lunch. We had the daily special.

Salad

Chicken curry and rice

A Yverdon beer

As we ate lunch we could see a train going back to Blonay for more visitors

After a satisfying meal we walked around the two museum buildings. There is a very large collection, most of it under cover but not a great deal has been done to restore the exhibits. The whole museum area is very cramped and while there were a large number of people in uniform the whole thing felt a little chaotic.

We took the steam train back to Blonay and watched the gravity shunting until it was time for the train to take us back to Vevey. In both directions the train stopped on the viaduct, to blow down the boiler. The viaduct is under heavy repair and I didn't take any pictures. Here is a picture I took in 2018.

We had the opportunity to walk down to the water at Vevey before taking the short trip to Puidoux through the World Heritage Designated Vineyards overlooking Lake Leman.

Puidoux

At Puidoux we took a train to Lausanne. There was rather a long wait for our train to Yverdon - 25 minutes. But it turned out the train originated at Lausanne so we were able to wait for the departure in an air conditioned first class car.

The end to another busy day.
