A Rainy Day - Monday 9 September 2024
It was dark and cloudy this morning. It began to rain and has rained on and off all day. We had to change our plans accordingly.
Our first stop was at Payerne where a number of old electric locomotives are stored in the open. The above two are both Ae 4/7. They look in reasonable shape but don't know whether they are operational.
From Payerne we went to Bern and decided to go out to Schwarzenberg and back - merely because we had not travelled over this single track BLS branch before. It runs through pleasant country and there is a very high trestle at Schwarzwasserbrucke. There is a station nearby - note for a future trip.
The Schwarzenburg station is not much of interest although the army did liven things up a bit.
We decided to have lunch at Konolfingen because we had not been there and there was a small Migros Restaurant. There is a heritage operation there but the weather was too bad for us to explore.
From Konolfingen we took a train to Solothurn and returned to Yverdon.
The weather improved slightly this evening so there is hope for tomorrow.
