Thursday 4 September 2025 - Visit to Brugg Bahnpark and dinner on the Churchill car
The SBB has this piece of whimsy on each one of its IC2000 trains. Maybe VIA should think of doing something to liven up the look of its trains.
We left Zurich early this morning on a train to Brugg. The Bahnpark is in an old roundhouse and a couple of additional buildings. Our guide was very helpful and we had a very good visit. Many of the locomotives were difficult to photograph but here is a selection.
The Limmat is a reproduction of one of the first locomotives in Switzerland
A vertical boilered steam car used on the Bauma railway. It has one driven axle and one trailing axle.
Privately owned and under restoration.
A beautiful SNCF 1-4-1R built in Montreal
The 1-4-1R is in great shape and is used on excursions occasionally
A Krocodile
After our visit we went back to the station and took a local train to Wangen where we found this Euro9000 from Stadler. There were plenty of freights moving in the area, many of them powered by Re 620s.
However we also came across this Re420 in green, one of only two left in this colour.
This evening Paul had arranged dinner on the Churchill car. This is the car that Winston Churchill used on his tour of Switzerland in 1946. Every first Thursday in the month the car is brought into the Zurich Hbf, stabled on a platform and dinner is served. This evening the car was brought in to platform 13/

The crew are preparing to welcome us.
Outside many passengers stopped to admire the train and look at i=us enjoying our meal.
The normal operation of the station carried on around us. At various rimes we were surrounded by normal trains and at one time a TGV to Paris pulled up behind us on our platform .
We had a three course meal with wine
Pumpkin soup
A typical local plate with pork
Fruit salad with cream
We said goodbye to the friendly crew and returned to the hotel.
